The Med Seafood Bistro, Plettenberg Bay

In 2012 The Med Bistro was acknowledged as a “Top 20 Culinary Destination on the Garden Route” by the CXpress Foodie team under the auspice of the SA Chefs Association & Chaine des Rotisseurs. We were also awarded avery Special Merit Award for longevity & consistently good cuisine over a period of 27+ years .

“Taste the essence of the sea, the rusticity of roasted whole fish with slightly burned herbs, the salty sexiness of fresh oysters…”

Meals are presented simply, with light sauces and minimal garnishing, in order that ingredients – which are sourced locally as far as possible, quality and freshness being the criteria – can speak for themselves. If you aren’t in the mood for seafood, you’ll be equally well catered for with dishes such as superb roast duck al’orange (rated the best on the coast !) slow-cooked lamb shanks, pastas and vegetarian options.

The new breakfast and day-time menu is sure to satisfy customer expectations in this age of lighter meals on the run, with the a la carte menu reflecting the more classic grounding of the restaurant.

An extensive, Diners Club multi-award winning wine list complements the meal. The accent is on South African wines, and the selection changes regularly to accommodate interesting new discoveries.

Plettenberg Bay’s longest-established restaurant

Plettenberg Bay’s longest-established restaurant has been given a new lease on life with a move to a spectacular new position –– and photographs cannot do justice to the beauty of the wrap-around views from the restaurant & sunny terrace.

From sunrise the room is drenched in sunlight, and the large sliding glass doors invite inside-outside living, with an all-round view of blue bay, mountains & verdant green hills. Contemporary, light & fuss-free during day time, the uniquely finished wood panellingsoftens into warmth & intimacy at night.

The Med is still about good food and good times, always with a fond glance over the shoulder to acknowledge the role of past friends in the long-time success of the brand. The Med has become part of the recent history of Plettenberg Bay – with supporters and their children having become part of a large, extended family.
