The Hou Moed Centre is situated just three kilometres from Hermanus, Western Cape South Africa in the suburb of Zwelihle on its Western boundary. (Hou Moed meaning “Courage or do not lose heart”). It is a popular haven for many of the youth living in this previously disadvantaged residential area. It is also one of very few places where they are provided with development and recreational opportunities.

Do not lose heart
The after school activities at the Centre operates five days a week as well as during school holidays and, besides being able to participate in a variety of special programmes, the attending youth averaging between 60 to 80 daily are also served with either a cooked meal or, mostly on Saturdays, with some fruit and a sandwich or bread roll. The Hou Moed Centre is registered as a Non Profit Organisation with the South African government. Being recognised in this way has certainly afforded it the scope and motivation to continue expanding its facilities and services over the years.
