The sombre mood of this cold and rainy morning was quickly broken by our visit to the Village of Hope located on the edge of the town of Grabouw. Its dedicated and dynamic team has provided for the rehabilitation of children infected, and affected, by HIV and AIDS since it was founded in 2009.

Working closely with other community partners is key to their success; the clinic, local businesses and the families of some of the children are part of the fundamental support structure that sees children on their way to good health and families reunited whenever possible.

The purpose-built facilities that are available on-site to nurture and care for these children reflect the dedication and commitment of the Village of Hope team.

Volunteers are welcomed to the Village of Hope family and are housed in eco-friendly accommodation constructed from hay bales, which also make use of re-purposed materials such as washing machine doors for windows.
