The Wildlife Vet Experience with The Expedition Project was life changing. From arriving at the airport to two friendly faces, to working with Dr Peter Rogers, other vets, and professionals they could not have been more welcoming, informative and encouraging. Getting a contrast between game reserve veterinary work and conservation / endangered species work was something I found invaluable. Being hands on and learning more about conservation, darting protocols, testing, common conditions, diseases and their treatment through practical experience was rewarding. With the added bonus of being able to give back to the local community at the same time made the experience unforgettable. I would definitely recommend this experience to anyone with an interest in wildlife medicine who wants to make some amazing memories and give back to the local community at the same time.

This Wildlife Vet Experience was truly the trip of a lifetime! The team behind the experience clearly put so much time and effort into creating it, and once you are there it is clear how much they care about making sure you have the most amazing time. Working with Dr. Peter Rogers was an absolute dream, he is so passionate and engaging and the work we did with him was SO cool. I loved working at HESC and the visits to Daktari, Nourish, and taking part in the vaccination drive, were real highlights. The game drives we went on in our spare time were spectacular and I feel just incredibly lucky to have had the experience I’ve had. Aidan and Rico were the best guides ever and absolutely made the trip!

  8. Molly Richardson

The wildlife vet experience was an amazing truly once in a lifetime opportunity, far exceeding any expectations I had. If this is something you’ve been considering doing then I’d highly recommend you go for it. There are so many opportunities to get close up hands on experience with a variety of species of South African wildlife, and chances to practice both animal handling and clinical skills in a new and exciting setting. There is such a variety of activities to get involved in on this trip, shadowing wildlife vets, observing their routine procedures. Or working within HESC, a wildlife rehabilitation centre. As well as a lot of community outreach in the local area. Even helicopter darting. A well rounded trip with something for everyone. Plus Aidan and Dan our guides made the group feel like the family. Definitely a more than worth while and incredible trip to be a part of.

This trip has been the most incredible two weeks of my life. It is very evident how much thought and time goes into making sure it is the best possible experience. Aidan and Dan were amazing, always so attentive, and knowledgeable and most importantly a lot of fun to hang out with these last two weeks! The trip really would not have been the same without them. Roger was super organised from the very beginning always making sure everything was okay and immediately answering any queries. Getting to see and treat these wild animals up close is such a unique experience and I have made memories that will last me a lifetime. Dr. Boshoff and Dr. Rogers along with the other vets were always very helpful and patient always explaining everything and making sure they made time at the end of each day for questions. They were a lot of fun to work with and I learnt so much from them. This trip has opened up my mind to a completely different type of wildlife from what I am used to and has really solidified my passion to become a wildlife vet. I would highly recommend this trip to any vet students who are interested in working with wildlife and conservation.
