Dating back to 1746, De Doornkraal is one of the original buildings in Riversdale and situated on the oldest road in town. The setting is superb, classy and historic and most definately worth a visit.
Make sure you phone ahead as the restaurant is reservation only. We went by the waitress’ recommendations and shared a beautifully fragrant Thai beef curry and chicken breast stuffed with sundried tomatoes, pesto and wrapped in kudu carpaccio. De Doornkraal also has its own wine estate and we were lucky enough to sample a bottle of their bronze winning Aan’t Vette Rose’. The chef then said that we couldnt leave without trying his triple fudge brownie, so of course we werent going to argue! He wasnt wrong when he said that it was the restaurant’s firm favourites. Overall De Wingerdt actually surpassed the already high expectations and whole experience of dining there was very memorable.
