Ambassador Profile – Agnieszka Wieczorek, Wrocław University, Poland.
Hi, I’m Agnieszka – A Wrocław University, Poland student and I have been a part of The Expedition Project Ambassador team since 2024.
I have been working with The Expedition Project since 2024, helping as a Central Europe representative.
WHEN DID I FIRST REALISE I WANTED TO BE A VET?
As I remember well I was around 5 years old when I saw the movie “The Lion King” for the first time. I don’t know why, but I just fell in love with wildlife, especially lions. Since then I knew I wanted to work with these animals in the future, so I figured out that the best option to have this opportunity is to become a vet, so that I can treat them and contribute to their wellbeing.
WHAT IS MY MOTIVATION TO BECOME A VET?
My motivation is to make this world a better place. I want to leave it better than it was. I guess that everybody needs a mission in their life, so that they have a goal to achieve. For me it means protecting the beautiful creatures we have on our planet to keep the biodiversity and minimize their suffering.
MY BIGGEST TIP IF YOU WANT TO STUDY TO BECOME A VET IS…
Always keep your mental health in the first place. Learn how to deal with difficulties and obstacles which come up during the studies and during practicing as a veterinarian. Do not stress about every exam and mistake, because it does not define who you are.
THE HARDEST THING ABOUT BEING A VET IS…
Dealing with demanding clients for sure! Dealing with owners who do not listen to your advice or do not care about the health of their animals – it’s heartbreaking. The second thing is a moral dilemma for example when a client cannot afford treatment or uses emotional blackmail. In many countries vets are not well paid and work long hours – this profession is a devotion requiring a lot of passion and dedication.
WHAT IS MY FAVOURITE ANIMAL?
A lion! They are absolutely the most stunning creatures walking on Earth. I could not count all the hours I spent watching them in movies and staring at them in zoos.
MY FAVOURITE ANIMAL RELATED STORY IS…
I decided to be a foster mom to a 1 week old kitten found in a river. Vet told me that it may not survive. It was a big responsibility, the animal was only dependent on me. It was truly unforgettable watching this small kitten grow and gain more strength every day. After a few weeks when it was ready I found her a new home with loving owners. Saving lives is definitely the most rewarding and unique part of being a vet! Always worth all the sacrifices.
MY FAVOURITE ANIMAL PHOTO I HAVE TAKEN IS…
It’s a photograph taken by my friend during my Wildlife Veterinary Medicine Course in 2021. I was extremely happy, because I finally made my biggest dream come true! I had the privilege to help in many medical and conservation procedures on wild animals. In this photo you can see me doing an injection on a beautiful lioness before a partial ovariohysterectomy.
