Week 18…From Limpopo to Mpumulanga

30 April 2012

Day 114

Hoedspruit

We left Maruleng Lodge and moved to Blue Cottages, a sweet little lodge surrounded by beautiful lushness. Tertia and Tony looked after us well and we felt very at home. The highlight of Hoedspruit was getting to visit the amazing Jessica Hippo.

Day 115

Hoedspruit

Had a lovely sponsored lunch at Cala La Pasta before heading off into the town to take some pictures and get to know the town a bit better. It’s a very sweet little place with lots of offers, being so close to Kruger and all. A great stop-off point before a safari.

Day 116

Hoedspruit to Wilveriend.

Met Sarah from Nourish and headed to Moses’ house in Wilveriend where we would be spending the night. Had a great evening cooking under the moonlight and chatting with some of the locals from the community.

Day 117

Wilveriend to Acornhoek

Full on day with Nourish handing out school uniforms, and dolls and planting trees in 3 local schools. A fabulous experience and one we were lucky to be a part of. Knackered after a long day, we enjoyed some time at Ridgeway Tented camp in Acornhoek, relaxing and chatting by the fire.

Day 118

Acornhoek to Graskop

Said goodbye to Limpopo and hello to Mpumalanga. Graskop is a gorgeous place and definitely lives up to its name as everywhere you look there is lush greenery all around. The town itself has lots to offer and it wasn’t long before we were sampling the famous Graskop pancakes. That night we stayed at X, a very nice place overlooking the picturesque hills.

Day 119

Graskop

Rog had a great chat with Martin, an environmentalist with 30-odd years of experience in the bush. We then moved on to Log Cabin Village right in the centre of town before heading off to the famous Gods Window –a lookout point high up in the hills.  Great sponsored dinner at Cantanabio Restaurant.

Day 120

Graskop to Pilgrims Rest

Drove the short distance to Pilgrims Rest and Mount Sheba Resort. Pilgrims Rest is equally as pretty as Graskop and a lovely place to spend some time. We enjoyed a semi-relaxed Sunday –a little bit of admin and then some chilled-out time before dinner.
